Prayer cloths
Scripture passages and experiences of using prayer cloths.
Jesus said:
Mark 16:16–18
“Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to all creation! Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out evil spirits, speak in new tongues, pick up venomous snakes with their bare hands, and if they drink anything deadly it will not harm them; the sick on whom they lay their hands will recover.”
Acts 19:11–12
God worked extraordinary miracles through Paul’s hands, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched his skin were taken to the sick, and their diseases left them and evil spirits went out.
We cannot go everywhere to lay on hands, but through prayer cloths we can send our hands out. All who believe in Jesus can pray and “send their hands out”.
Acts 10:34–35 (the original article quotes the 1968 Estonian Bible)
Then Peter began to speak: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation the person who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him.”
In Estonia, prayer cloths began to be used during the Tallinn revival at St Olaf’s Church, which pastor Ülo Niinemägi wrote about. God is the same. Just as God used handkerchiefs and aprons taken from Paul, He can use prayer cloths today. Peter’s shadow also brought healing to people — we are still waiting for that.
An experience from our fellowship
At TTT, we started using prayer cloths during Covid. We still use them, now at every worship service, prayer service, TTT gathering and so on.
The reason is simple: we have continued to see, hear and experience what God does through simple prayers when we believe and act according to His Word — in this case through prayer cloths — laying hands on those who are sick in spirit, soul or body.
It is interesting that several sceptics have been healed. For example, one day, on 9 January 2024, I read a letter from someone who had been a Christian for decades but was very sceptical that God could do anything special through a piece of cloth: surely prayer alone would help… Yet when this person placed it against their body, despite considerable scepticism, the pain left and a long-standing situation was resolved. People had prayed about it from a distance, but the pain had not gone away. Doctors could offer no explanation, because tests had shown no abnormalities in the person’s health.
This is one example, but there have truly been very many instances of healing, evil spirits leaving, peace, and much more.
Jesus is the same yesterday, today and for ever! He hears and answers — thank you, Jesus!
